Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended the Dragon School. Emma always had the desire to become a professional actor when she was just at the age of six. She attended Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute that offers part-time classes. From the age of 10 the actress took part in and performed the main role in numerous Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It also was the most successful film in 2001. Its opening weekday and weekend sales were record-breaking. The film was praised by critics, as were the performance of three new starlets. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma's performance was recognized and was awarded five awards for the movie.
